Support Services

At the Saint Vincent Cancer Care Center, we know every patient’s needs are different. Our support services include cancer professionals who work with patients and their families to assure that their unique needs are met throughout the entire continuum of care, even after discharge. Additional support services that are available as needed include home health, rehabilitation, palliative care, behavioral services, pastoral care, nutrition and education. To coordinate the clinical care and treatment of the cancer patient, we have an oncology clinical nurse specialist who acts as a liaison between the patient, physician and clinical staff. The clinical nurse specialist visits cancer patients on a regular basis to discuss their individual treatment options, progress and nursing care as well as providing education based on a patient’s needs. The oncology clinical nurse specialist also educates the staff to be certain the team is always up-to-date on the latest cancer treatments and nursing care.

We understand cancer affects all aspects of a patient’s life. Through our oncology nurse navigator program, we have nurses trained to help patients and their families through the entire course of cancer treatment. These nurses answer questions, help to access support services and act as a patient advocate. They even link patients and families with community services, such as the American Cancer Society, and also help to transition patients from the hospital to home. With our navigator program, patients coping with cancer know they have a guiding hand from diagnosis through treatment.
