Considering a second opinion?

If you’re struggling with decisions on surgery and/or treatment options, getting a second opinion from another physician may help clarify the direction you’d like to take on your journey to survivorship.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

• Some insurance plans actually require a second opinion.

• Before seeking a second opinion, ask your insurer if the plan will cover the costs of the second opinion.

• Medicare will cover second opinions and will even consider paying for a third opinion if the first and second opinions are not the same.

• Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance program also provides coverage for a second opinion.

• A second opinion should provide you with additional helpful information on the pros and cons of the surgery and/or treatment under consideration.
